Cooking in Pittsburgh
Wow, the end of August went by quickly! Once I returned from the shrimp adventure I was home for one day, did laundry and got ready to leave again.
On Tuesday August 31 I headed to Pittsburgh. I had to pack clothes and all of my cooking things since I was going to do a personal chef service for my niece and her husband. I almost forgot my pantry box because it's just not a normal thing to take when I visit my sister.
I left about 10 on Tuesday and had decided that I was staying somewhere on Tuesday night. I made it to West Virginia, stopped for the night, asked the desk people about pizza and was directed to a pizza place. I ordered cheese, mushroom and banana pepper and it was very good. I had stayed at this exit before and knew I wanted to avoid the steak house. Really avoid it.
I headed out Wednesday morning and made it to my sister's about 11:30. I decided to shop for groceries on Wednesday since I didn't know the stores and thought I'd have to go to more than 1. I was pleasantly surprised that I only needed one store but was shocked at the cost of groceries. I know the range of groceries for my personal chef services and this was about $50 more than I expected.
Once home I put everything away and went to the backyard and into the pool. Mary Ann from across the street came over and we chatted and had a nice time in the pool. Wednesday night we went out for dinner. It was good, I had white pizza with spinach, chicken, tomatoes.
Thursday morning everyone left for work and school so it was me and the dogs ready to cook. I had to banish them from the kitchen, I was afraid I'd trip over Blarney. My niece is due on September 17th, so she and her husband have meals ready to go after the baby. I finished cooking and cleaning about 2:30 and headed to the pool. Beautiful weather. Chatted with Mary Ann again.
Thursday night was out to dinner again at Carl's Tavern and we had a fried fest. I had fish, mushrooms, zucchini, fries. My niece is due in about 2 weeks so was pretty hungry. We ate a lot. More fried food than I eat in a year I think.
Friday I was on vacation. Everyone again left for work and I had the dogs. I decided to shop a little and then back home to read until about noon and to the pool. Yes, with Mary Ann.
We went out again for dinner and I had grilled herbed chicken over heirloom tomatoes with steamed vegetables. I had to counteract the fried fest. My sister did guilt us into having dessert with her so I had a cannoli. Very good.
Saturday morning I was awake early and on the road about 7am. I don't like to stop when I am driving so had water, cheddar bunnies and almond cookies. When I did have to get gas I picked up some iced tea. I had to stop twice and made it home 11 1/2 hours later. I was ready to be home.
We had to go to dinner again since I was doing no cooking after all of my driving. I thought that my husband might have surprised me with dinner all ready, but no.
Yesterday we were invited to my friend Rosemary's for the christening of her Big Green Egg. Her husband made the table for their Egg with my husband. I took caprese salad with tomatoes that Mary Ann gave me. Delicious. Rosemary prepared bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, macaroni and cheese, roasted asparagus, roasted peppers, fruit salad, onion dip, marinated feta and olives, spinach strawberry salad and chocolate sheet cake. Oh, and white sangria. A feast!
We set the alarm today for 5 am and started our Egg. I have a pork butt on for dinner. We then went to Jazzercise, I made breakfast, did some paperwork for my clients tomorrow and Wednesday and am now ready for my holiday. I might go shopping, not positive about that.
I had some great trips but am happy to be in my home and cooking in my kitchen again.
